CPD Teacher Training Day

Target group

Recommended for teachers of Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils, DSL’s and pastoral care.

Course outline

To support teachers to keep children safe online, in line with KCSIE 2018 and the Prevent duty.  Safety Net raises awareness to the current and real dangers emerging from the internet, the importance of protecting professional reputation and building children’s digital resilience.

Course Objectives

To equip teachers with the knowledge, confidence and resources to deliver engaging lessons to children as well as raising awareness workshops to parents.

Topics Covered

Module 1

  • The dangers of sharing personal information when chatting online and through social media.
  • Not everyone online is who they say they are.
  • What is sexting, and when it can become a criminal offence.
  • The risks involved when playing online games with others and the importance of age limit restrictions.
  • Switching on webcams to spy.
  • Privacy and safety settings.
  • Scams, hacking and protecting professional reputation.
  • Action planning.

 

Module 2

  • Cyberbullying.
  • Trolling.
  • Fake news, as well as inaccurate and pervasive information that children might come across online.
  • Grooming and how to recognise the methods used online by groomers who try to sexually exploit, blackmail or radicalise.
  • Hate crime.
  • Action planning.
